With the music made famous by Bob Marley and other Jamaican artists providing a lively backdrop, the eighth annual Reggae Marathon kicked off last month in Negril with some 750 participants from 15 countries.
There was a major Canadian presence at the race including Leah Irvine, sales representative Westjet Vacations; Susan Laurin, regional director Canada, HotelConnect and Annie Cicvaric, account manager, Travelweek as well as the three winning travel agents from Yellowbird Reggae Marathon Contest: Nuno Alves, Flight Centre, Toronto; Elaine Colbourne, W.E. Travel, Vancouver and Karen Stummer, The Travel Network, Toronto and her husband Howard. There was also a team of 68 from the Canadian Arthritis Society.
Alves ran the half marathon with personal best of 1 hour 36 minutes while Stummer completed the full marathon which was her seventh in 2008.
The agents travelled to the race courtesy of the following sponsors: Travelweek, Radonic Rodgers, SoftVoyage, Air Transat Holidays, CATO and Sandals.
The travel industry group stayed at Beaches Negril, an ideal location as it was within walking distance to the pasta party as well as the start & finish locations.
An additional 15 Yellowbird running shirts were donated to the Little London High School in Rondel Village Negril, which had entered the event for the first time. |
